I READ CANADIAN DAY

I Read Canadian Day is a national celebration of Canadian books for young people, with the goal of elevating the genre and celebrating the breadth and diversity of these books. This year’s event will take place on November 6, 2024. The IRC committee is planning some virtual presentations for the day. Stay tuned for more details. We also encourage schools, libraries and bookstores to invite a local author to your school, library or store to celebrate the day.

WHEN: November 6, 2024

Schools, libraries, daycares, and families across Canada are invited to sign up and join the rest of Canada in reading, being read to, or listening to a Canadian book for 45 minutes on November 6, 2024.

Remember, you can help promote reading Canadian all year round. Buy or borrow Canadian books. Share I Read Canadian Day with your colleagues, schools, teachers, librarians, friends, family, and bookstores. Include a link in your email signature. Tag #IReadCanadianDay in your posts and reposts. It’s a Canada-wide party and everyone is invited. Help spread the word!

I Read Canadian Day is made possible through the partnership of Canadian School Libraries, The Canadian Children’s Book Centre, The Canadian Society of Children’s Authors, Illustrators and Performers, The Ontario Library Association, and The Forest of Reading and through the financial support of Access Copyright and Orca Book Publishers.

Absolutely. Go crazy, go zany. Have fun! Put in subtitles. Special effects. Green screen. Did we mention have creative fun? When you register, you’ll find more details on how to submit a video in the IRC virtual classroom, including how to enter to win an author visit.

Then on behalf of Find Your Own Story, become part of I Read Canadian Day on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, with readings and shoutouts from the NHL’s Connor McDavid, other notable Canadians and — most fun of all — from other students and teachers across Canada!
